Moov can analyze your form as you're exercising and give you real-time tips on how you can improve your workouts.
Most fitness trackers can do things like count how many steps you take during a run and calculate the calories you burn. But a new device called Moov aims to go a step further, and serve as your virtual personal trainer.
Dubbed the "next generation of wearable fitness gadgets," Moov can analyze your form as you're exercising and give you real-time tips on how to you can improve your workouts. The device itself is a small plastic disc that you attach to the body part you want to measure during your workout. You'd wear it on your shoe when running, or your wrist while cardio-boxing, for instance.
It pairs with the Moov app on your mobile device and tracks your movement and analyzes your body's position to provide instant feedback and details about your progress over time. The device promises to push you just like a real personal trainer.
On your morning run, for example, Moov can track your form and tell you that you need to shorten your stride and land softer to avoid injury. Or, when playing golf, you can attach it to your club and it might say that you need to swing slower and follow through more. It's even waterproof, so you can wear it while swimming.
When you want to zen out, the Moov can help you with your yoga practice. After connecting it to your tablet, you'll see your movements on the screen in real-time and get instant feedback about your alignment.
Plus, as you work out, you'll earn achievements and can share your progress with friends to stay motivated. When it launches, the device will support five activities —running, cycling, swimming, boxing, and body weight training, though Moov said more activities will be added over time. It will initially be compatible with the iPhone 4s and above, but Android support should be available this fall.
The Moov will be available at some point this summer, but you can pre-order it now at 50 percent off. A single Moov will set you back $59.95 when you pre-order, or you can get two for $99.95. Once production begins, prices will go up to $120 for a single Moov and $200 for two.
The device comes with a charger, wrist band, and ankle band. You'll be able to choose a color after the pre-order campaign ends.
