Samsung's TV spot for the Galaxy S5 debuted during the Oscars
In case you had somehow missed the biggest smartphone announcement of 2014,
Samsung's Galaxy S5 is about to launch soon. And the company has made sure the S5 gets the attention at the right time by showcasing the first TV spot for the phone during the 86th Academy Awards in Los Angeles today morning.
Before we talk about Samsung's big Oscars play, here's the ad itself.
As you can see it's a short film that focusses on one of the key features of the Galaxy S5. First, Samsung indulges in a bit of word play to pander to the Oscar occasion, before we realise the ad is actually talking about the Galaxy S series and the latest member of the multimillion-selling series. The key feature focussed upon here is the built-in heart rate monitor, which is placed below the S5's camera. The dimpled back is also in the spotlight.
The ad itself was short and is certainly not the most memorable one we have seen from the company, but Samsung had other plans too to show off its devices at the Oscars. Host Ellen DeGeneres carried around a white Galaxy Note 3 for much of the ceremony and a star-studded selfie clicked through that phone has become the most retweeted tweet ever.
